First I must apologize for not posting more blogs... I've had a few ideas in my head, I've just not been overly motivated to do anything with them. So, by popular request, here we go!
Most of you who know me well, know I don't particularly care for award shows.
I don't care what movies the "establishment" likes. What they like and what I like seem to be two entirely different things.
I don't care what actresses are wearing this year or what some flaky fashion designer has cobbled together out of paper clips and twine and charge some overly stupid actress $10,000 for.
I'm really not interested in all the ass kissing either.
Besides, these shows take valuable air time away from infomercials which I also hate, but are at least a little more entertaining.
That said, I saw two movies in 2011 that were actually produced in 2011. The rest I wasn't interested in seeing. So, my pick this year for best picture which in my opinion is worth more than an Oscar is (drum role)...... The Muppets.
The Muppets is the clear winner chiefly because:
1) They had a significantly higher ratio of Muppets in the film to human actors and lets face it, Muppets are awesome.
2) The soundtrack is amazing. You can't truly appreciate "Smells Like Teen Spirit" until you've heard it in the original barbershop quartet version. I find myself absentmindedly humming it, and my other favourite, "Am I a Man or a Muppet" regularly. I might remind everyone, that I generally hate musicals, so this is quality material.
3) All the great cameos... too many to mention and I'm hard pressed to pick a favourite. I would say however that I really enjoyed Jack Black in his manic role, and Jim Parsons surprise appearance.
4) It was written in part by Jason Segel and I always enjoy his antics.
5) Mahna, Mahna. Enough said.
So there you have it. If you haven't seen it, do so. If you don't like it, well, we just can't be friends anymore.
